"We moored below the lock and then took 68M up with everyone on board. The entrance from downstream is up the Little Brosna river and turn left. It's a tight squeeze for a big boat and we got quite stuck at one point. Also there's no room to turn so we had to reverse down. It's a nice little trip though and the lock is in beautiful condition. All it needs is gates. (Well, that and the water levels to be returned to where they were !) The upstream canal is largely dry and overgrown though you can walk the bank up a good ways.
Gerry got 68M more or less into the entrance of the lock. Getting out was a good deal harder ! I wouldn't risk it with Chang Sha unless the river was a bit higher. The cut is quite badly silted, specially round the entrance and it took quite a lot of effort to get 68M unstuck".
